Heidi Hamilton

Dr. Heidi Hamilton joined the department in 2004. Dr. Hamilton received a M.A. degree from the University of North Carolina, and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Iowa. Her scholarship focuses on foreign policy and gendered rhetoric. Most recently, that interest has taken two paths. First, she has been looking at social protests of military actions, particularly the Iraq war. The second area is women in politics, and projects there have been on media coverage of women in combat and a forthcoming co-authored chapter on Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice as the first female secretaries of state. Her work on celebrity and political activism has appeared in the American Communication Journal. Dr. Hamilton is past chair of the Feminist and Women Studies Division of the National Communication Association.

Dr. Hamilton teaches courses in persuasion, social movements, gender, communication theory and public speaking. She also co-advises Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association student honor association.
