GREAT PLAINS/GREAT BOOKS
"Great Plains/Great Books" book discussion series. Since 1947 the Great Books Foundation has been promoting continuing education for the general public by providing people the opportunity to read, discuss, and learn from outstanding works of literature. Now in a program developed by ESU's Center for Great Plains Studies and the Emporia Public Library, participants in the series will have a chance to get together with others to talk about Great Plains books and discuss the pleasures and hardships of life on the plains. The books to be discussed are Great Plains by Ian Frazier; O Pioneers! by Willa Cather; Touching the Fire: Buffalo Dancers, The Sky Bundle, and Other Tales by Roger L. Welsch; Bones of Plentyby Lois Hudson; and Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Funding for the series was provided by the Kansas Humanities Council. For information about using this series in your community, contact the Kansas Humanities Council .
