On behalf of Emporia State University, we want to thank our veterans for your service to our country.  We look forward to celebrating your service and the service of all Emporia State veterans this fall in Emporia, the founding city of Veterans Day and the home of Hornet Nation.  Please join us in celebrating our veterans during the nation’s 60th anniversary of Veterans Day.  We look forward to seeing you in Emporia at Emporia State University this November.

Thursday, November 6

Veterans Military Roundtable / Emporia State University Memorial Union (Preston Family Room) / 7:30 p.m.

Featuring Major Jeff Hall, an ESU alumnus, who will be discussing PTSD and the role of art therapy in treating the disorder. 


Friday, November 7

Weekend Registration and Alumni Reception / Memorial Union & Bloomer Veterans Hall of Honor / 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Veterans are encouraged to bring pictures and memorabilia to display on tables and tour the Bloomer Veterans Hall of Honor Room.  The reception will feature opening comments by our honorary co-chairs: Brig. Gen. William "Art" Bloomer, '55, Distinguished Alumnus, and Maj. Gen. Kevin Leonard, '79, Distinguished Alumnus.  This event is co-sponsored by the Emporia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the ESU Alumni Association.


Veteran Talent Show / Albert Taylor Hall / 7:00 p.m.

All Veterans are invited to “show off your talent” by participating in the All Veterans Talent Show.  For more information about getting involved in the performance, please contact event organizers Sherry Davidson at or Jose Feliciano, Jr. at  


Saturday, November 8

Campus tour (walking and driving options) / / Memorial Union Main Street Area / 9:30 a.m.

Coffee and rolls will be available.

All-Veterans Luncheon
/ location TBD / 11:30 a.m.

Guests will include alumni veterans and current students who are veterans.


ESU vs. Northwest Missouri football game / Welch Stadium / 2:00 p.m.
Veteran recognition during halftime of the game.


Sunday, November 9

Freedom Fest (Run, Walk, or Bike) /  All Veterans Memorial / 8:00 a.m.
