For more than 20 years, the Kansas Future Teacher Academy has provided select students with the opportunity to learn more about the challenges and rewards of teaching. It is recognized as an established and highly respected training opportunity for students throughout the state of Kansas.
More than 1000 of Kansas’s brightest high school juniors and seniors have graduated from the KFTA since its first year, when the academy received the prestigious AASCU Christa McAuliffe Showcase for Excellence Award.
Activities During the academy’s intense five-day summer program, participants share in a variety of activities helping them understand better what teachers do and to determine whether or not they have the potential for meeting this professional challenge.
Activities include participating in seminars on leadership and self-improvement. Students meet and discuss education issues with ESU instructors, Kansas Master Teachers, National Teachers Hall of Fame inductees, a Kansas State Teacher of the Year, and a National Board Certified Teacher, among other highly accomplished educators.
