Program of Study
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree wil provide you with increased business knowledge and increased skills in the areas of critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork. The program of study incorporates and integrates courses in management, marketing, accounting, finance, information systems, and strategy. An Emporia State MBA gradute has the skills necessary to compete and contribute in the global environment of the 21st century.
The MBA program is fully accredited by AACSB International, is designed for business and non-business graduates, and is one of the most affordable and flexible programs in Kansas.
Utilizing face-to-face and online instruction, the MBA program consists of 12 courses, or the equivalent of 36 credit hours. The program is designed to allow students to select the elective courses that suit their individual needs, or to follow a concentration program of study to focus on individual areas of interest. The accounting concentration gives students additional accounting knowledge and preparation for the CPA exam. The information systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) concentrations provide students with practical, hands-on, real world knowledge needed to work with and manage integrated business systems.
Cross Functional Experiences
Select core courses in the MBA program pair skills students learn in two separate classes to successfully analyze and develop solutions for cases and real-world problems. Recently, these case teams have been assigned opportunities to work with existing businesses on projects and business opportunities. This method exposes students to teamwork and analytical experiences, utilizing business knowledge gained from previous courses, to present recommended solutions to business owners and directors.
Professors who teach MBA courses at ESU must meet the high standards established by AACSB International. These professors work actively as consultants to businesses, government agencies, and serving in leadership positions in professional organizations at the state and national level. Many professors have authored or co-authored articles and textbooks. The MBA faculty members share in their classes a wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge, experience, and realism.
