Why Study Finance at ESU?
Finance majors are in great demand because every business needs people with specialized skills that a finance degree offers. For example, most businesses extend credit to their customers, so a person with a background in finance is the ideal choice for the credit analyst position. Finance majors know how to determine the credit-worthiness of the customer, and they are also able to put that information into the larger picture of how extending credit to that customer might impact the company in the short- and long-term. Many graduates also become financial analysts and analyze an organization’s financial situation. As their careers progress, finance majors often move into financial leadership positions, such as Corporate Treasurer and Controller, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and even Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
But let’s get to the bottom line: Can you think of any business decision that does not involve money in any way, or that does not affect an organization financially? The finance major is designed to prepare you for careers that deal with money. Every organization, whether for-profit or non-profit, needs sound financial management to grow and succeed. Building on the business core, the focus of the finance major is on areas such as investments, corporate finance, international finance. Entry level opportunities for students with a bachelor's degree in finance are available in banking and financial services, corporate finance, investment management, real estate, insurance, enterprise risk management, consulting, non-profit organizations and the public sector.
