School of Business - Emporia State University

Business Career Day 2006

 

The School of Business hosted its annual Business Career Day on Tuesday, October 3. The theme of Career Day this year was Career Scene Investigation ? Emporia State. Over 400 high school students, instructors, and sponsors participated in the event.

Participants had the opportunity to hear presentations about several different career opportunities from Emporia State alumni representing several different businesses and organization.

The presenters were:

  • Michael Black (Commerce Bank and Trust)
  • Sherry Broers (Marks, Nelson, Vohland, and Campbell)
  • Nancy Copeland (Hopkins Manufacturing)
  • Jon Geitz (Edward Jones)
  • Brad Johnson (Payless ShoeSource)
  • Connie Lindell (Santa Fe Trail High School)
  • Natalie Moreau (Payless ShoeSource)

Andrew Vincent, President of Beta Alpha Psi; Holly Minkler, President of Phi Beta Lambda; and Chris McMichael, President of Kansas Phi Beta Lambda served as moderators for these sessions.

Two panels of ESU business students provided insights to the audience about maximizing the high school experience and preparing for college.

Moderators for these sessions were Jennifer Robertson and Erica Manning.

Additionally, June Coleman-Hull, Interim Director of Career Services, and the ESU Educational Theatre Company provided several humorous and informative skits relative to the do?s and don?ts of interviewing. The high school students also had an opportunity to win several prizes from a drawing.

The teachers and instructors participated in a session with Dr. Nancy Hite concerning recent events and activities in Business Education at Emporia State and to discuss various issues of concern to the teachers. The teachers also met with Dr. John Rich to discuss Career Day and other issues of interest to the teachers. Each of the participating teachers/sponsors received a gift from the School of Business.
