The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at Emporia State University has concluded another challenging tax year. The program is directed by Dr. Alexis Downs, who teaches tax courses in the School of Business. The 2008 year included a two day clinic at the Flint Hills Mall. Beta Alpha Psi members advertised the program, prepared returns for former Tyson employees, and interpeters were provided by a local service organization. Deloitte donated Cintax, which is tax preparation software for 1040NR returns. 1040NR returns are filed by international students.
Thank you to all of the student volunteers and organizations for donating this valuable service to the community. This accomplishment was also recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. Hi Alexis - Your site did an incredible job this year, and I want to take this opportunity to thank you. Please share this truly heartfelt thanks with the rest of your volunteers for the dedication and hard work that produced such a successful season. This was a season that was always challenging and often difficult, with the added burden of the Economic Stimulus Payments; and yet you managed a 54% increase in accepted returns! Well done!!!
