"You sell a company twice. First of all, you sell them the product, then you sell them the service."

Information Technology

The intense pace of technological change has prompted a widespread
deployment of information technology throughout the industrialized world.
The opportunity afforded by this technology, and the demands placed on
management by global competition, generate a premium for those individuals
who are able to use information technology to solve business problems. Courses
required for the Information Systems (IS) major prepare students to participate
successfully in the application of information technology in the business world. IS
continues to be one of the fastest growing and highest salaried professions in the
world. As a consequence, those individuals who are well prepared in this area will
continue to be in high demand. Emporia State University can help to prepare you for
a long and successful career in the innovative application of information technology
in a global business environment.

What is meant by Information Systems (IS)

The IS major involves the study of how people, data, computer hardware,
software, and other technology work together to satisfy the information needs of
professionals who are involved in making business decisions. In addition, the IS
major also provides a thorough understanding of the business issues that form
the environment in which these decisions are made. Modern, competitive
corporations require that information systems professionals fully understand
the impact of new applications of technology on the company, and are capable
of communicating that knowledge.
