Accounting Career Opportunities
The accounting profession offers outstanding career opportunities for those who have the necessary accounting skills, communication abilities, and personal attributes. Accounting offers exciting opportunities to participate in the growth and development of businesses and other organizations. The accounting profession has grown rapidly in recent years as more and more people have recognized the value that a well-prepared accountant can add to their organization. Starting salaries for accountants are among the highest for all college graduates. For those who are highly motivated and who are effective in interacting with other professionals, the opportunities for rapid advancement are great.
Each year, approximately 25 businesses, accounting firms, and governmental agencies send personnel recruiters to Emporia State University to interview accounting graduates. The University's accounting faculty and Career Services have been very successful placing graduates in exciting and prestigious positions that offer challenge and opportunity for professional growth. ESU graduates have found rewarding careers in Kansas, the Midwest, and throughout the United States.
Accounting graduates find employment in such areas of specialization as auditing, tax planning and return preparation, financial accounting, cost accounting, budgeting, management advisory services, internal auditing, and teaching. Many of our graduates become members or leaders of the financial management team of their organization. Initially, accounting graduates are employed as accountants in:

- state and federal government agencies
- service businesses
- financial institutions
