Welcome to my home page!
First a little information about who I am and what I am doing:
After many years away from high school and my first college experiences, I decided that a career in biology was what I really wanted after all. I moved myself and my children to Mena, Arkansas where I earned an AA degree at Rich Mountain Community College. I then earned a BS in biology at The University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
I am presently working on a MS in Biology with an emphasis on ecology. My major advisor is Dr. Elmer Finck.
My thesis project deals with small mammal populations associated with serecia lespedeza.
I have recently been working on a project on thermoregulation and
activity patterns of nine-banded armadillos. I am very interested in the distribution and thermoregulatory characteristics of North American and South American armadillos. While I have had to bring my thermoregulation project to a temporary halt, I am still anxious to hear about other armadillo research that is going on.
I am the assistant editor for the Prairie Naturalist, a publication of the North Dakota Natural Science Society.
Personal stuff
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas but finished high school in Mena, Arkansas. I spent the next part of my life moving all over the country and working at all sorts of interesting jobs. After many years, and two children, I moved back to Arkansas and decided to go back to school. Ultimately, the decision to continue my education and then meeting my husband, Dwight, have brought me to Emporia, Kansas and Emporia State University. Until this move, I had never even given Kansas a thought!! We have recently purchased a new home on 20 acres - enough room for my horses!! Did I mention that I am more than a little horse-crazy? My major equestrian interest is in dressage. I own a thoroughbred mare, and two 1/2 Trakehners.
My husband, Dwight Moore, and I have four wonderful children. Our daughter, Diana, is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. She now lives with her husband, Mike in New Mexico. Check out the EnGarde home page!
We have three sons: Joshua (12), Daniel (13), and Jerod (14).
