September 19, 2009 -- The #3 Emporia State volleyball team tied the best start in school history with a 3-1 victory over Northwest Missouri. The win is the Hornets 13th in a row and ties their previous best start of 13 straight which came in 2005.
In set one ESU used the serving of freshman Jocelyn Demotte who served for six points, twice three in a row to help ESU to a 25-18 victory. In set two the Bearcats used a several 3-0 runs to knock off the Hornets 26-24. ESU rebounded in the third set going on a 3-0 run to open the set and not looking back on the way to a 25-15 win. In set four ESU opened up 3-0 and used a 5-0 run by Jenna Snook to earn the 25-18 win.
Arica Shepard had 21 kills and finished with a third straight double-double adding 13 digs on the afternoon. Brittney Miller added 17 kills while hitting .452 for ESU and Brianne Boner added 14 kils to go along with two blocks. Ting Liu had a season high 54 assists along with five kills. Amy Byfield added 14 digs while Jenna Snook added 12 for the Hornets. ESU outhit the Bearcats .262 to .182 on the day.
ESU will travel to #11 Central Missouri on Sept. 23 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
