September 18, 2009 -- The #3 Emporia State volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory in their home opener against Missouri Western. ESU outhit the Griffons .301 to .117 on their way to a 25-16, 25-14, 13-25, 25-14 win.
In set one ESU used five runs of two or more to blaze to a 25-16 victory. In set two with ESU leading 11-6 the Hornets scored nine of the next 10 points to roll to a 25-14 win. In set three the Hornets struggled only hitting .050 as the Griffons took the set 25-13. The Hornets rebounded in set four as they got three runs of three points to win 25-14.
ESU was led by All-American Arica Shepard who had 18 kills and 13 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Brittney Miller added 18 kills for the Hornets as she hit .593 for the night. Megan Lueger finished in double-figure for the fourth time this season as she added 10 kills. All-American Ting Liu had 52 assists to go along with four kills. Amy Byfield finished with 16 digs while Jenna Snook added 14 on the evening.
ESU will face Northwest Missouri tomorrow at 4 p.m. from W. L. White Auditorium.
