August 29, 2009 -- The #3 Emporia State volleyball team completed their weekend sweep by winning 3-0 over Minnesota State-Mankato at the UNO Showcase. ESU hit .296 for the match as they racked up a season high 47 kills and got six service aces to earn the win.
Arica Shepard led the way with her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs. Brittney Miller finished in double figures for the first time this season with 11 kills. Megan Lueger and Amy Byfield added a game high 16 digs each. Ting Liu added 42 assists along with a service ace, her fifth of the weekend. Freshman Jacelyn DeMotte had four service aces giving her seven in the weekend tournament for the Hornets.
ESU starts the season 4-0 and will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Midwestern State for their tournament Sept. 4-5 in Wichita Falls, Texas. ESU will open play against Tarleton State at 1:30 p.m. from D.G. Ligon Colisieum.
