November 7, 2009-All-American Arica Shepard had 18 kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 sweep by #7 Emporia State over Missouri Southern on Saturday night in White Auditorium. The Hornets never trailed in the match and their were only nine ties in the three sets.
Shepard was seven of eight on attacks in the 25-19 first set win as ESU hit .359 as a team. The Hornets used a balanced attack in the second set, with five players getting at least three kills in the 25-13 win. The final set saw Shepard take over again with seven kills on 14 attempts as took the final set 25-18.
Shepard was the only player in double figures for the Hornets with 18 kills and added 11 digs as she moved into fourth all-time in the MIAA in kills with 1,952 career kills. Amy Byfield led all players with 16 digs and Katelyn Schmidtberger had 15 digs. Ting Liu had 42 assists, five kills and three digs for ESU.
The Hornets will play their final home game of the 2009 regular season on Tuesday, November 10 when they take on Southwest Baptist. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in White Auditorium.
