September 12, 2009 -- The #3 Emporia State volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Edinboro in the Peggy Martin Challenge in Warrensburg, Mo. The Hornets struggled hitting the ball, but had 11 blocks on the way to a 25-18, 25-23, 24-26, 25-21 victory.
Arica Shepard led the way with her third straight double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs on the night. Brittney Miller finished with 13 kills and was the only other Hornet in double-figures. Freshmen Nicole Gingery and Caitlyn Murray both finished with five kills apiece filling in for injured Hornets. Gingery finished with nine kills while Murray finished the match with eight. Ting Liu added 45 assists to seven digs and two blocks. Jenna Snook had a match high three service aces for ESU.
The Hornets will start MIAA play on Sept. 16 when they travel to #21 Truman. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve from Kirksville, Mo.
