October 3, 2009 -- The #6 Emporia State volleyball team stayed perfect on day two of the Lady Blues Crossover with a 3-0 win over Southeastern Oklahoma. The Hornets hit .326 for the match on their way to the 25-20, 25-23 and 25-18 victory.
In the first set the Hornets drew an early 7-4 lead on a run that included two kills by Brittney Miller and service ace by Ting Liu. The match went back and fourth before ESU scored eight of the last 12 points to take the 25-20 win.
In the second set ESU fell behind 8-5 early, but would answer by scoring five of the next six points to take an 11-10 advantage. The lead would change four more times before SEOSU took a 20-18 edge, ESU would then score seven of the final ten points to come from behind for the 25-23 victory.
In the final set ESU fell behind again early, this time falling back 6-3 as SEOSU scored four straight points. Trailing 8-6 the Hornets scored six of the next eight points for a 12-10 lead. Getting up 14-13 ESU would only allow the Savage Storm four of the final 15 points on the way to a 25-18 win.
Arica Shepard finally had her streak of double-doubles ended at 11 as she had 11 kills and only five digs. Brittney Miller hit .556 for the match as she finished with 11 kills as well. Ting Liu had 33 assists and Amy Byfield was the only Hornet in double figures with 12 digs. The ESU defense had six blocks as they forced 16 attack errors and eight service errors.
The Hornets will travel to #21 Pittsburg State on Oct. 9 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
