Game one saw 11 ties and six lead changes before Arica Shepard had back to back kills to ignite a 5-1 Hornet run for a 26-23 lead. Shepard would end game one with her ninth kill of the game for the 30-28 win.
The Lady Blues jumped out to a 9-2 lead in game two and led 13-7 before the Hornets staged their own 12-1 run to take a 19-14 lead. Hannah Carter had two kills and two blocks during the run for ESU. WU came back to tie the game at 29-29 and had game point at 32-31 before ESU scored the final three points of the game.
Washburn again took an early lead in game three, this time getting leads of 5-1 and 12-6 before ESU started their comeback. The Hornets took their first lead at 15-14 following an 8-2 run fueled by three Megan Koster kills. There would be six ties and five lead changes the rest of the way. WU fought off three match points while ESU escaped a game point at 31-30. Mary Walczuk and Brianne Boner had back to back kills to end the match and five ESU it’s fifth win against a nationally ranked team this year.
Arica Shepard had 21 kills and Megan Koster recorded 18 kills on .417 hitting as the Hornets snapped the Lady Blues 27 match winning streak. Ting Liu dished 57 assists in the three games while Amy Byfield led ESU with 24 digs. Tessa Jones had 17 kills for the Lady Blues while Erica Cowhick had 34 digs. It is the second time ESU has beaten a ranked WU team in their last regular season meeting of the year after taking a 3-1 victory over then #18 WU in Topeka last season.
ESU is back in action this weekend when they travel to Kirksville, Mo. to take on #7 Truman and Missouri-Rolla. First serve is set against the #7 Bulldogs is for 7 p.m. on Friday. ESU will play host to Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday, Nov. 6 in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.

-Arica Shepard's 21 kills is her fourth straight match with at least 20 kills and her school record tenth match over 20 kills this season.
-Ting Liu's 57 assists are the most in a three game match in the MIAA this season.
-The crowd of 1024 is the largest in ESU history and the second largest crowd in the MIAA this year.
