#23 ESU VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN CLOSE MATCH TO #7 WASHBURN
September 26, 2007 -- The #23 Hornet volleyball team pushed the #7 Lady Blues to the limit losing the match 3-2. Emporia State overcame a poor hitting performance in game one, where they fell 17-30, by hitting .283 in game two to win 32-20. The Hornets took game three with a 30-25 win. ESU led 10-6 in game four before WU came back for a 30-25 win. The Lady Blues won the match with a 15-6 victory in game five.

The Hornet attack was led by two freshman as Brittney Miller had 17 kills and hit .306 on the night and Brianne Boner hit .429 and had 16 kills and five blocks for ESU. Both Boner and Miller set career highs in kills on the evening. Also in double figure kills were Megan Koster with 13 and Arica Shepard with 11. Hannah Carter had five kills and four blocks for the Hornets in her return to action following an injury. Ting Liu had 54 assists for the Hornets and also finished the night with four kills and 16 digs while Megan Koster had the team best in the match with 17 digs.

The Lady Hornets will next play in St. Joseph, Mo. against Missouri Western at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29. Their next home match will be on Oct. 2 against Southwest Baptist from W L White Auditorium with first serve set for 7 p.m.
