#21 ESU WINS AT MSSU
October 19, 2007-- Ting Liu recorded a triple-double with ten kills, 60 assists and ten digs as #21 Emporia State won 3-1 at Missouri Southern on Friday night. As a team the Hornets hit .296 for the night as they moved to 21-6 overall and 7-2 in the MIAA.

Game one featured 12 ties and two lead changes as neither team led by more than three points in a 30-28 MSSU win. The Hornets were held to a .174 hitting percentage while the Lions connected on a .295 clip. ESU never trailed in a 30-23 win in game two. The Hornets hit .459 in the game with Mary Walczuk and Arica Shepard each collecting six kills in the game.

ESU ended game three on a 10-2 run to take another 30-23 win and go up two games to one. Megan Koster scored the final four points for the Hornets with three kills and a block. The final game saw 10 ties and six lead changes until ESU went on a 5-0 run to take a 21-16 lead. Amy Byfield had back to back aces during the run. Hannah Carter was four of five on attacks in the 30-26 match clinching win.

Four Hornets reached double figures in kills led by Arica Shepard's 20 kills on .286 hitting. She also added 14 digs, two blocks and three aces for 24.5 points in the match. Megan Koster hit .407 with 13 kills while Mary Walczuk added 12 kills. Amy Byfield had 22 digs and two aces for ESU.

Emporia State will take on #15 Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon in Pittsburg. The Hornets lead the Gorillas by one game in the MIAA West Division in the race for home court in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. First serve at John Lance Arena is set for 1 p.m.
