#23 ESU VOLLEYBALL GOES 1-1 AT LADY BLUES FALL CLASSIC

October 5, 2007-- The #23 ESU volleyball team fell to #17 West Texas A & M 3-1 in the Lady Blues Fall Classic in Topeka, Kan. on Friday. The Hornets fell behind early in game one by a score of 16-4, but battled back before dropping the game 24-30. In game two the Hornets used a 5-1 run late in the game to earn the 30-28 victory. In game three West Texas grabbed a third victory 30-24 and in game four the Buffaloes used a 7-1 run to close out the final game with a 30-27 win.

Arica Shepard led three Hornets in double figure kills with 16 kills in the match to go along with 14 digs to earn her second double-double of the day. Megan Koster also came in with a double-double netting 13 kills to go along with 11 digs, Mary Walzcuk also ended in double figures for the second straight match with 15 kills. Ting Liu had 55 assists to go along with two service aces.

Earlier in the day the Hornets knocked off Dallas Baptist 3-1 in their opening match of the Lady Blues Fall Classic. Megan Koster had 19 kills and Arica Shepard had 18 kills to pace the Hornets. Mary Walzcuk had 11 kills on 15 attempts hitting .733 during the match, also netting 11 kills for the Hornets was Biranne Boner. Ting Liu had a season high 64 assists in the four match win.

Mary Walczuk connected for 11 kills on 15 attempts for a .733 hitting percentage as the #23 Hornets defeated Dallas Baptist 3-1 in their first match at the Premier Mortgage Washburn Lady Blues Classic on Friday morning.

Megan Koster had a match high 19 kills with five blocks while Arica Shepard had 18 kills and 17 digs for ESU. Brianne Boner added 11 kills on .348 hitting and seven blocks as the Hornets hit .341 as a team. Ting Liu dished 64 assists in the four game match.

Shepard was six of eight in the first game as ESU got on top 30-23. Dallas Baptist evened the match with a 35-33 win in game two. Koster had six kills on .333 hitting in the second game. The Hornets dominated games three and four, winning 30-13 and 30-18 to close out the match. Walczuk and Boner combined to hit .700 with 15 kills between them in the final two games.

The Hornets will now face Oklahoma Panhandle State and Abilene Christian tommorow on Day two of the Lady Blues Fall Classic in Topeka. First serve against OPSU is set for 11:30 a.m. with the ACU game starting off a 2:00 p.m.
