ESU VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO ON FIRST DAY AT MSSU INVITATIONAL
August 24, 2007--After a thrilling come from behind win against Mo.-St. Louis, Emporia State came back with a quick 3-0 win over Drury on Friday at the MSSU Invitational. The Hornets are one of two undefeated teams after day one of the tournament.
Arica Shepard had a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs for ESU against Drury while Megan Koster collected ten kills on .562 hitting for the Hornets. ESU hit .349 as a team as Ting Liu had a match high 34 assists. Liu added six aces in the 30-22, 30-23, 30-17 sweep of the Panthers. The Hornets opened the season with two wins for the second time in three years.
The Emporia State volleyball team came from behind to pick up a 25-30, 23-30, 30-28, 30-25, 15-11 win over UMSL in the first match on Friday afternoon. It was the first time ESU has won a match after dropping the first two games since defeating MSSU on Sept. 27, 2002 in Joplin, Mo.
Arica Shepard had a game high 24 kills against UMSL, including the match decider, to go along with ten digs. Megan Koster had 16 kills and 12 digs on .342 hitting for the Hornets. They were joined in double figure kills by Mary Walczuk with 16 and Brianne Boner with ten kills. Ting Liu had a match high 52 assists for the Hornets against the Tritons.
The Hornets are back in action Saturday against Central Oklahoma and Angelo State in the MSSU Invitational.
