Central Missouri - Washburn Post Game Press Conference

Peggy Martin-Quotes
“Just really thrilled with the way our team was able to perform against a very good Washburn team, they’re a talented team and obviously we’ve scraped with them before, so it was pretty wide open as to who would win and to who would have the better day and we were blessed to have the better day today. I’m just really, really proud of them. “
“We went back to our regular lineup, last time I really overcoached and tried to do some things I shouldn’t have done then, but we went back to our regular lineup. You know, in all my years of coaching, 33, I’ve never made it threw a match using no subs, or timeouts. Especially at this level. That says a lot about the six players we had on the floor, we had a great bench, and I could have used some people, but the flow was there, and you’re not gonna mess with something that’s working, and I never remember not using subs in my whole entire life. It was a phenomenal performance by our team, and they picked the right time to peak.”
Carrie Peterson:
“I don’t know, we don’t really talk about it, we just talked about what we need to do to go in and play our best game and continue our season, and I think we did that today.”
“No, I think we’re just looking to play the best that we can every time we’re on the court, but I think this is a development, I think, to play for each other, we’re just doing our best every time we get out on the floor.”
Paula Harris:
“Coach was talking to us before the game, she’s like, ‘We know Washburn just as well as we know each other, so go out there, play and put it all out on the floor and you guys will do great.”
Washburn
Chris Herron:
“They were just better than us today. I don’t know what to say. Game one they got tight, and they were on a six point, excuse me, seven point run. Game two, they were on a five point run. And I thought in game three we let a couple of calls that maybe didn’t go our way effect us negatively, and they were able to pull away. But, give credit where it’s due, give that credit to Central, because they just played better than us today. Thank you.”
“I thought the biggest, I thought that I thought she did well I thought Peterson, I’ll be honest with you, the difference. And what I mean is that, she is a more consistent hitter, outside hitter, than other kids. Other kids were more dynamic, and she can have flashes. I’m talking about number one, Brooke, and she can be really good at times, but I thought Peterson brought them more stability. I thought that their matchup her blocking them was critical for them too. Because they were able to block the ball or get to hand the ball, whereas not so much with the other team there. We were looking for that matchup, and we didn’t have that. Good, good coaching on her part.”
“Yeah, I thought they did. And you know, we came into trouble early, so we tried to make a switch, and I thought Courtney did a really good job in game one and two, not so much in game three. I thought that we were getting the ball to the pin for Mollie Lacy to get the swings. You know, our freshman class is good, and we look for great things out of them in the future, obviously.”
“Well, I don’t know what our record is. I drew up a little card the other day and I don’t remember when I wrote it, but it was something like 132-19, or 132-20, or something like that when she’s been playing, and that’s pretty good. That’s what those kids mean to my program. They’ve helped raise the bar up, and we just got through talking in the locker room about that exact same thing, that the bar was set really, really high last year, and trying to get to that bar that we set last year, was tough and it takes obviously some talent, some luck, and a special group of individuals to get there. And we just kind of didn’t seem to have that in there this year, or the lack of experience there, we hadn’t been through the battles that the kids that we lost last year had, so I attribute a little bit of that, but anytime you win thirty matches in a season, for the most part, and I guess, this is the third season we’ve been ranked in the top ten. I don’t know if that’s really fair for everybody to judge us on what we did last year. Last year’s what is was, and this year’s what it is.”
Monica Meisner:
“I don’t know. I just wasn’t connecting very well with the setter today.”
“I’m happy for what I’ve accomplished. I always look back, and think that I can do something better. You always think about the negative, you don’t really see what you’ve done good. And that’s what I’ll remember.”
