Hornets win first round match over UT-Permian Basin

November 21, 2008-Emporia State's Arica Shepard had match highs of 21 kills and
14 digs as the Hornets defeated UT-Permian Basin 25-14, 25-18, 25-9 in the first
round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Volleyball Tournament in
Emporia's White Auditorium.
The junior All-American hit .471 as she recorded her third 20 kill match of the season and the first in a three set match. The 21 kills are also an MIAA season high for three sets this year.
The Hornets will take on West Texas A&M in the regional semifinals at 7 p.m. on Saturday in White Auditorium in a match up of top five teams in the Bison/AVCA National Poll.
Notes:
The win was ESU's 18th straight at home.
The attendance of 1605 is the second largest home crowd in ESU history.
