Rick Ginter, who coached Hornet throwers to eight national championships and 29 All-American honors from 1995-2001, has agreed to serve as the throws coach at ESU beginning with the 2009-10 season.
"I'm really happy to have Rick back," said Harris. "He has coached some of the top throwers in ESU history and now we hope he can start making history again."
ESU was dominant in the throwing events under Ginter. From 1995-2001, 14 different Hornets won 38 of a possible 72 MIAA championships in the throws. Eight of the 12 throws records at ESU are held by athletes that Ginter coached.
"Over the last couple of years, we would bring kids to the ESU campus for practices and I felt like I coached better there," said Ginter. "One of the kids said that's because you're home, so I guess I'm coming home."
Ginter has spent the last eight years as the throws coach at Northern Heights HS. Under his guidance, the Wildcat throwers won eight Kansas State Championships and placed in the top ten at the state meet 14 times.
