April 4, 2009-National Champion Josh Honeycutt added to his own school record in the triple jump with the 14 th best mark in the world this year to highlight the Euler State Farm ESU Relays on Saturday. He earned two of ESU’s seven event championships in their first home meet of the season.

Honeycutt went 53-09.25 (16.39m) on his final triple jump after bettering his previous school record of 50-07.50 on all four of his legal jumps. He has the top collegiate mark in the nation, regardless of division and the 14th best mark in the world at this point in the season. He also won the long jump with a provisional qualifying mark of 23-09.50 to be the only male competitor with two individual wins.

Alex Pyle and Vincent Howze each added individual championships with provisional qualifying marks. Pyle went 6-08.75 (2.05m) to win the high jump and Howze ran 53.29 to win the 400m hurdles and move into the top five all-time at ESU. Doug Marshall went 47-08.00 to provisionally qualify in the triple jump as he finished second to Honeycutt.

Josh Schuler picked up ESU’s other individual championship on the men’s side, running 21.78 in the 200m.

Connie Philips moved up to eighth in the nation in Division II with a throw of 140-11 in the javelin to finish second. Renae Weaver and Katie Mona each won individual championships and the ESU women came away with a total of seven runner-up finishes.

Weaver led a 1-2-3 sweep in the long jump. She went 17-09.75 (5.43m) to beat out teammate Brooke Kent in the long jump. Mona won the 1500m, outrunning teammate Kathryn Davison in second place, and finished second in the 800m. Kent also finished second in the 100m.

The Hornets are back in action next weekend as they host the Papa John’s D-II Challenge. Activities begin on Thursday with the Open Multi-events. The D-II Challenge is the only scored meet of the home season.
