HORNETS OPEN SEASON AT KSU ALLCOMERS WITH THREE MORE PROVISIONALS
December 14, 2008-After the Emporia State women picked up three provisional qualifying marks on Friday at the Carol Robinson Pentathlon, the ESU men recorded three provisionals at the KSU Allcomers Meet in Manhattan, Kan. on Saturday. All-American Kenton Lonberger just missed an automatic qualifier in the 60m while the duo of Josh Honeycutt and Matt Koelling both provisionalled in the triple jump.
Longberger broke his own school record in the 60m running a 6.79 to place third overall and miss an automatic mark by just .01 seconds.
Honeycutt and Koelling finished first and second in the triple jump for ESU. Honeycutt’s mark of 49-08.25 (15.14m) is the second best triple jump in school history. Koelling went 47-03.50 (14.41m) to also provisional for the national meet.
Katie Mona highlighted the afternoon for the ESU women, winning the mile run by nearly 16 seconds.
"We were pleasantly surprised with the number of provisional qualifying marks from this weekend," said ESU assistant coach John David Harris. "Overall, it was great to finally see the athletes compete after training since early September. It was especially good for the freshman to get a taste of collegiate competition."
