ESU PICKS UP THREE PROVISIONALS AND AN AUTO AT UT-ARLINGTON
March 29, 2008—Jonel Rossbach began the outdoor season with an automatic qualifier in the 1500m run and Kenton Lonberger hit two provisional qualifiers at the UT-Arlington Bobby Lane Invitational on Saturday.
"This early season meet always provides tough competition," said ESU hiead coach David Harris. "We have only been training one week together since spring break. We need to have some good practices over the next two weeks while running here at home."
Rossbach's time of 4:30.10 is second all-time at ESU to Kelly McCammon's time of 4:26.20 set at the NAIA National Championships in 1986. Rossbach also placed eighth in the 800m.
"Jonel had a great start to the outdoor season. Her mark in the 1500m is second behind Kelly McCammon. That's very impressive in the first meet of the season."
Brooke Kent picked up the other provisional for the women by jumpiong 18-06 in the long jump.
Lonberger hit two provisional marks in the sprints and anchored the 400m relay for the ESU men. His time of 10.64 in the 100m is the fifth best in ESU outdoor history.
"Kenton continued an outstanding freshman year anchoring our 4x100 and running provisional times in the 100 and 200."
The Hornets will host the second of four home meets this weekend. The State Farm ESU Relays will begin Saturday with the field events at 10:30 a.m. and the finals on the track at 12:30 p.m.
