ROSSBACH HITS AUTOMATIC MARK AT ADIDAS CLASSIC
February 9, 2008--All-American Jonel Rossbach hit an automatic mark and neared a school record in races at the adidas Classic hosted by the University of Nebraska. The senior from Omaha, Neb. ran a 4:56.96 to finish fourth in the mile and a 10:03.97 to place fifth in the 3,000m run. Her mile time is a provisional mark and the second fastest time in the nation this year. The 3,000m is not a championship event, however her time is the second fastest in ESU history.
"I am especially pleased with Jonel's mile time since we have been held back by weather doing any speed work. She has been relying on her strength built up in cross country.” said ESU head coach Dave Harris. “Last year I had her running shorter races (800m and 4x400m relay) and working on speed constantly - I believe going to more volume and strength now will pay off at the end of indoor and moving into the big races outdoors."
Rossbach was the only Hornet to compete at the adidas Classic. The Hornets will send split squads next weekend to the ISU Classic in Ames, Iowa and the MSSU Radio Shack Invitational in Joplin, Mo.
