ESU WOMEN HAVE SIX TOP THREE FINISHES AT WILDCAT INVITE

January 19, 2008--Brooke Kent finished third in the long jump and also had top five finishes in the 60m and 200m for the Emporia State women at the KSU Wildcat Invitational on Saturday afternoon. ESU had six top three finishes for the women after capturing ten top three finishes by the men on Friday in Manhattan.

“I was just glad to see the team back in action,” said ESU head coach Dave Harris. “When you look at it we have been off competition since the 1st weekend in December - I suspect the individuals on our team will show the greatest improvement in the next three to four weeks.”

Linzi Weilert had the top place for ESU, finishing second in the shot put. Jaclyn Sill was third in the 600 yard run while Kathryn Davison placed third in the 800m and Chastity Hughes-Stanton was third in the 400m. The women’s 1600m relay team also placed third for ESU on the track.

“I thought Sill and Lundgren in the 600 yd competed well - they had some great competition from the Missouri State women and ran very good times on K-State’s tight 200m track,” said Harris. “Brooke Kent also has shown that she is stepping up as a sophomore jumping over 18 feet and competing in both short sprints .”

The women competed on Saturday after the men ran on Friday at Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan. Both team will be back together nest weekend at the ISU Open in Ames, Iowa.

“Damon's NCAA qualifier shows he is very consistent as a thrower as a senior,” said Harris. “It was a nice addition to have Alex Pyle jumping for our team. We should see Dustin Andrews in the coming weeks. Coach Moe works well with us to give these guys opportunities to jump. He gets excited about it as much as anyone and supports our team. They are good athletes and we need to work together between programs as much as possible at ESU to allow this to happen.”
