ESU MEN BRING HOME TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS FROM KSU WILDCAT INVITATIONAL
January 18, 2008- Josh Schuler and Doug Marshall each won individual championships while Damon Birk picked up a provisional qualifier for Emporia State on Friday at the KSU Wildcat Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. ESU also had three runner-up finishes at Ahearn Fieldhouse.
Schuler won the 200m dash in a time of 23.07 while Marshall went 46-05.25 to win the triple jump. Birk had a provisional qualifying mark of 53-04.50 to place second to 2003 World Outdoor Decathlon Champion Tom Pappas in the shot put.
In addition to Birk, ESU got second place finishes from Kenton Lonberger in the 60m dash and Alex Pyle in the high jump. Lonberger’s time of 6.94 is the third fastest in ESU history. Pyle just missed the provisional qualifying mark in the high jump by one centimeter. He is expected to make the trip to Warrensburg, Mo. to suit up for the Hornet basketball team as they play Central Missouri on Saturday.
The ESU women will compete in the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. Both teams will be back together on Jan. 25-26 at the ISU Open in Ames, Iowa.
