HORNETS WIN THREE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT PITT STATE INVITE

February 1, 2008—Emporia State athletes combined to pick up three championships and three provisional qualifiers on Friday at the Pitt State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan. and the Frank Sevigne Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
In Pittsburg, Alex Pyle won the men’s high jump with a provisional qualifying mark of 6-10.75 (2.10m) that ranks second in the nation. His mark is just one centimeter in front of teammate Craig Saalfeld’s mark of 6-10.50 (2.09m) set last weekend.
Damon Birk had a provisional qualifying mark of 52-10.75 (16.12m) to finish second behind 2003 NCAA Division II national shot put champion Tony Thompson.
Jennifer Robinson won the long jump and finished second in the high jump and triple jump to lead the ESU women.
Kathryn Davison picked up the other event championship for ESU by winning the 600 yard run.
Kenton Lonberger clocked his second straight provisional qualifier at 6.88 in the 60m dash at the Sevigne Invitational to advance to Saturday. He also advanced to Saturday in the 200m and is one of only two NCAA Division II athletes to make it to Saturday in both events.
The Hornets will wrap-up the weekend in Lincoln on Saturday.
