HORNETS GET TWO PROVISIONALS AT MULE RELAYS
February 8, 2008-A day after scoring a career high 11 points in 29 minutes of ESU’s double overtime loss to Northwest Missouri, Dustin Andrews cleared a career best 6-11 (2.11m) to win the high jump at the Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo.
Andrews just missed the automatic qualifying mark of 2.12m and now has the second best mark in the nation this year. He is also second all-time at ESU behind Ron Hunter’s 7-1 set in 2002. Alex Pyle finished third at 6-07 (2.01m) after clearing 6-10.75 (2.10m) at the Pitt State Invitational last weekend. Along with Craig Saalfeld’s 6-10.25 (2.09m) at the ISU Open, ESU now has three of the top four high jump marks in the nation.
Damon Birk picked up ESU’s other provisional mark at the Mule Relays, finishing third in the shot at 52-03.25 (15.93m). It is the fourth time in five meets he has met the provisional mark in the shot.
Josh Honeycutt just missed the provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump by less than an inch at 46-10.25 (14.28m) to move into fifth all-time at ESU.
The Hornets will send split squads next weekend to the ISU Classic in Ames, Iowa and the MSSU Radio Shack Invitational in Joplin, Mo.
