February 22, 2009-The #25 Emporia State softball team split their final two games at the South Central Shootout in Durant, Okla. on Sunday.  ESU lost to Central Oklahoma 8-2 in the first game and came back to defeat Southwestern Oklahoma State 4-2 in their final game.
The Hornets gave up four unearned runs and left ten runners on base, with six of them in scoring position in the 8-2 loss to the Bronchos. Jenna Potter was two for four with two doubles and a run scored for ESU against UCO.
ESU used a three run fourth inning against Southwestern Oklahoma to pick up the win in their final game of the tournament. All-American Miranda Campbell was three for three with an RBI to lead the offense for the Hornets.
ESU is now 8-6 on the year with seven of those games against teams ranked or receiving votes in the NFCA Preseason Top 25. The Hornets will be back in action this weekend at the Pitt State/Missouri Southern Crossover Tournament in Pittsburg, Kan. and Joplin, Mo.
