ASU Box Score
UNO Box Score

May 9, 2009-Emporia State fell twice on Saturday to bow out of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional-1 Tournament. The Hornets lost to the host Angelo State Rambelles 13-12 in nine innings in a game that lasted 3:14 and then fell to Neb.-Omaha 5-3 to end the season 43-16.

In the first game, ESU trailed ASU 4-1 before taking the lead with a five run third inning. Jill Peters continued her hot hitting in the post season, delivering a two run double in the inning. The Rambelles answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to retake the lead at 7-6. The Hornets then scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-7 lead. After giving up two more runs, Megan Dennis was relieved by Jennifer Heerey in the fifth as ASU took a 12-9 lead. Abby Hughes two run homer in the fifth brought ESU within a run and the Hornets tied the score at 12-12 with an unearned run in the sixth. Angelo State won the game with a bases loaded RBI single by Alix Dean with one out.

Peters was three for five for ESU with two RBI, a double and a triple while Abby Hughes went two for five with two RBI.

Neb.-Omaha took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the first in the second game. Miranda Campbell tied it in the bottom of the first with her 11th home run of the season. Julia Krejci and Katelyn Hinton each homered in the top of the second to chase Dennis. UNO took a 5-1 lead on Lindsey Slocum's sacrifice fly. ESU came back again in the bottom of the second with a two run homer from Peters. That would be the last score of the game as Slocum and Heerey combined to give up just three hits between them over the final five innings.

Peters was one for three with two RBI and a home run and Campbell was one for two with a home run.

The Hornets end the season 43-16, the sixth straight year ESU has won 40 games.

NOTES:
Angela Mahan set an ESU single season record with her 19th double of the year in the ASU game.
Jennifer Dace's double against ASU gave her the ESU career record with 53 and moved her into a tie for second in single season doubles with 18.
