ESU 12, SBU 0 (5)
ESU 9, SBU 1 (5)
April 5, 2008--The #22 Hornets used a couple of big innings as they run ruled SBU in both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday at the Trusler Sports Complex.
Jenna Potter drove in five runs for the Hornets including a two run home run that put ESU ahead 9-0 in game two. Miranda Campbell was three for four with five runs scored in the double header as she raised her average to .434 on the season.
ESU led just 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning of the matinee. Jennifer Dace reached on an error by the shortstop and Campbell reached on an error by the first baseman as she tried to field a sacrifice bunt. The two errors would jump start an 11 run inning for the Hornets. All of the damage was done on just three hits as the Bearcats walked four batters and committed three errors in the inning. The offensive outburst was more than enough for ESU's pitching as Samantha Sheeley struck out five and allowed only two hits in 4.0 innings and Megan Grisell threw one inning of no hit ball in relief.
The Hornets started the nightcap by scoring six runs on six hits in the bottom of the first. Dace hit her seventh home run of the year to put ESU up 2-0 to highlight the inning. Potter ended the scoring in the first with a two run single up the middle and then gave ESU a 9-0 lead in the third with a two run homer down the left field line.
ESU is back in action on Sunday when they play host to Northwest Missouri. First pitch from the Trusler Sports Complex is set for 12 noon on Fan Appreciation Day.
