March 10, 2008--Angela Mahan was five for eight with six RBI and Jill Peters was four for six with four doubles on the day as Emporia State won two games of the MWSU Crossover played at ESU’s Old Hornet Field on Monday. The Hornets defeated South Dakota 9-0 in their first game of the day and took out Augustana College 11-7 in the nightcap.
Mahan was two for three with three RBI and a run scored in the Hornets win over the Coyotes. The centerfielder put ESU on the board first with an RBI double to right center, scoring pinch runner Nicole Bergley in the top of the second. She gave ESU an eight run lead with a two RBI double to right during the Hornets four run fifth inning. Samantha Sheeley and Brittany Norris combined on a three hit shutout. Sheeley went the first 4.0 innings, striking out four, to extend her scoreless streak to 16.2 innings pitched. Norris then pitched a perfect fifth to end the run rule shortened game.
Mahan was three for four with a single, double and triple in the night cap. She drove in three runs during ESU’s nine run fifth inning with a double and triple. She scored the game tying run in the fifth after ESU fell behind 4-2 entering the inning. Peters, the designated player, was two for three with a pair of doubles in both games and drove in three runs in the win over AC.
The Hornets will play host to #6 Neb.-Omaha on Wednesday at the Trusler Sports Complex. The double header is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
