#12 HORNETS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT MIAA TOURNEY CHAMPIONSHIP

May 3, 2008-The #12 Emporia State softball team won its fifth straight MIAA Tournament Championship with a 4-0, 14 inning win over Central Missouri on Saturday at the Mid-America West Sports Complex in Shawnee, Kan. Miranda Campbell drove in the game winning runs with a two out, two RBI double to center in the top of the 14 th and Samantha Sheeley tossed a one hitter with 19 strikeouts for ESU.

After walking the first Jennie she faced, Sheeley retired the next 25 batters she faced and did not allow a hit until the bottom of the 14 th inning. Her 19 strikeouts are believed to be an MIAA Tournament record.

April Huddleston gave the Hornets their other two runs, following Campbell’s double with a two RBI single to right for a 4-0 lead.

ESU will play host to the NCAA North Central Regional Tournament beginning on Wednesday, May 7 at the Trusler Sports Complex. Teams and actual game times will be announced on Sunday evening.

NOTES:

ESU has now won 20 consecutive MIAA Tournament games.

ESU is the first MIAA team to win the MIAA regular season and tournament championships in the same year four straight times.
