#12 HORNETS USE LONG BALL TO EARN WIN

May 1, 2008 -- The #12 Hornet softball team opened the 2008 MIAA Softball Tournament with a 11-0 win over Fort Hays State. The Hornets hit four long balls in the game and seven of their 14 hits were for extra bases as they outhit the Tigers 14-2 in the game. They followed that up with an 11-2 victory over Washburn in their second game of the day.
 
Against Fort Hays State at the plate four Hornets homered as Jennifer Dace started the fireworks with solo home run in the second inning. April Huddleston added a solo shot of her own in the third inning. In the Hornets six run fourth inning Abby Smith and Miranda Campbell each added two run homers. The Hornet offense scored atleast one run in ever frame putting up three runs in the first and six runs in the fourth. Campbell and Smith each finished two for three with three runs driven in while Dace went three for three with two RBI. In the circle Samantha Sheeley earned her 21st win of the season as she combined with Megan Dennis to throw a two hitter.

Against Washburn Miranda Campbell went four for four and scored four runs as the Hornets knocked off Washburn 11-2 in six innings. Shelbe Hughes had four RBI for the Hornets in the win. Samantha Sheeley struck out nine through 6.0 innings of work on the way to her 22nd victory of the season.

The Hornets will now face Northwest Missouri State in the winner's bracket final on Friday at 12 noon.
