HORNET SOFTBALL TO HOST REGIONAL

April 30, 2008-For the third time in four years, the Trusler Sports Complex in Emporia will be the site of the NCAA Division II North Central Regional Softball Tournament. Emporia State will host the event next week beginning on May 7 and running through May 11. A total of eight teams will participate in the tournament.

The Hornets, who jumped up to #12 in the NFCA National Top 25, are ranked second in this week’s NCAA regional rankings. The top ranked team, Southwest Minnesota State, did not put in a bid for the regional.

The field for the regional will not be announced until Sunday, May 4.

Emporia State, the four-time defending MIAA Tournament Champions, will begin play in the conference tournament on Thursday, May 1 at the Mid-America West Sports Complex in Shawnee, Kan. ESU will take on Ft. Hays State at 12 noon in the first game of the tourney. The winner of the MIAA Tournament receives the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Regional.
