December 12, 2007--As the fall 2007 finals week continues at Emporia State , the Hornet softball team has been recognized as the #2 team in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic team for their success in the classroom during the 2006-07 school year.
It is the second straight year the Hornets have been ranked #2 in the NFCA Academic standings. ESU had a 3.631 team GPA in the classroom and was 50-12 on the field last season. The Hornets were second by .002 to Grand Canyon University and were one of four teams to appear in the final 2007 NFCA Top 25 and the among the top 25 All-Academic teams.
Along with the team award, 13 Hornets were recognized as NFCA Scholar Athletes. Miranda Campbell, Jennifer Dace, Megan Davison, Megan Grisell, April Huddleston, Linda Ketter, Laura Pfautsch, Courtney Reed, Samantha Sheeley, Courtney Stevens, Melissa Swager, Morgan Viola, and Jessie Wiard were recognized for holding a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.
A total of 61 schools made the 3.00 cut-off for the All-Academic Team Award. ESU led four MIAA schools in the top 25.
