HORNETS RELEASE 2009 SOCCER SCHEDULE
Complete Release

June 11, 2009-After a four match improvement from the previous year, the Emporia State women's soccer team will be looking to continue the building process with the release of the 2009 schedule.

The Hornets will open the season against Rockhurst on Aug. 28 in Kansas City, Mo.  The Hornets will play their first six matches before their home debut on Sept. 24 against Southwest Baptist on the ESU Pitch north of the Student Recreation Building.

ESU will follow the SBU match with a home contest against defending MIAA champion Central Missouri on Sept. 26 before another four match road trip.  The Hornets played the then #6 Jennies to a 1-0 score in their  meeting in Emporia last season.

The Hornets are slated to play six of their final seven matches on the ESU Pitch. Neb.-Omaha will begin the final run when the Mavericks come to Emporia on Oct. 18. Northwest Missouri will be the next opponent on Oct. 22 before the Hornets travel to Central Missouri on Oct. 24 for their final road match of the season.

The final four match home stand will begin on Oct. 29 against Missouri Western.  The Hornets swept the Griffons last season, taking a pair of 1-0 wins.  The soccer edition of the Turnpike Tussle will take place on Nov. 1 against Washburn on the ESU Pitch.  The Lady Blues match will wrap-up Homecoming events at ESU for 2009.

The Hornets will play host to Truman on Nov. 5 before ending the season on Nov. 8 with Senior Day against Missouri Southern.

For the first time in the nine year history of the program, the Hornets will play their entire home schedule on the ESU campus. For the first seven years of the program, ESU played matches at the TRYSA Complex in west Emporia.  Last season ESU played four matches on campus and six at TRYSA.  The Hornets averaged 259 fans for the four on campus matches and 173 fans for the six matches at TRYSA.  Overall ESU averaged 207 fans per game to rank 35th in the nation.

ESU was 4-15-1 last season with eight of their losses coming by just one goal and two in overtime.
