HORNET SOCCER FALLS IN TURNPIKE TUSSLE

November 1, 2009 -- The Emporia State soccer team fell 2-1 to Washburn on Sunday at ESU Pitch in the Turnpike Tussle. The Hornets were only outshot 19-11 on the day and lead at the end of the first half with three shots on goal to two by the Lady Blues.
 
Washburn started the scoring in the 73rd minute when Keeley Lambeth scored her third goal of the season. In the 82nd minute Tia Stovall added a goal off an assist by Ashley Taylor. In the 87th minute Tina Commons answered with unassisted goal of her own, her second of the year and second against Washburn, to cut the lead to one.
 
Commons finished with eight shots overall three of which were on goal. Amanda Miano, Sarah Anderson and Lindsey Allen also had shots for the Hornets. Katrina Goscha had five saves in her second straight start in goal for the Hornets.
 
ESU will face Truman at 1 p.m. on Nov. 5 from ESU pitch.
