HORNET SOCCER DROPS THE ROAD HALF OF THE TURNPIKE TUSSLE

October 15, 2009 -- The Emporia State soccer team struck first grabbing a goal in the first ten minutes, and were tied at the half. They could not rebound however from a late Lady Blue's goal in the 2-1 loss in Topeka, Kan.

Tina Commons got the Hornets on the board in the tenth minute with her first goal of the season. Sarah Whiteside added her first assist of the season. Washburn would respond as Leah Talley registered a goal for them in the 34th minute. The game would remain tied until the 79th minute when Lauren Henry put across the game winning ogal off a cross from Ashley Taylor. Nikki Schmitz finished with four saves as ESU held the Lady Blues to only 11 shots on the night.

ESU will return to home to face UNO on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. from ESU Pitch.
