HORNETS END SEASON WITH ROAD LOSS AT MSSU
November 9, 2008 -- Emporia State and Missouri Southern were tied in shot attempts, but the Lions converted on their final shot of the second overtime to end the Hornets season with a 2-1 loss in double overtime in Joplin, Mo.
MSSU took an early lead on Brianna McKenzie's header in the third minute of the match. Sarah Anderson tied it for ESU on a shot from 15 yards out in the 37th minute.
The teams played a scoreless second half and first overtime before MSSU's Nikki Llewellyn scored the game winner with 7:38 left in the second OT.
With the loss ESU ends the season 4-15-1, an improvement of 4.5 games over last year and placed higher in the MIAA standings than they picked in the preseason poll. Two of the Hornets losses were in overtime and five other matches were lost by only one goal.
