HORNETS FALLS TO UCM IN TWO OVERTIME
October 19, 2007-- The ESU soccer team held the lead for 89:41 seconds of their match with UCM before the Jennies broke through for a goal in the final minute in the Hornets 2-1 double overtime loss.
Megan Martin tied her own record for saves in a single game corraling 16 of UCM's shots on goal. The Hornets then held the Jennies scoreless until 19 seconds were left on the clock when Carrie Twellman was awarded a penalty kick after an offsides goal. Twellman hit the penalty kick forcing an overtime period.
The Hornets held the Jennies scoreless through the first extra frame forcing more extra time. In the second overtime period with six minutes remaining Hazel Cox got a shot off that beat Martin to the post to ensure the 2-1 win.
ESU will be back in action tommorow night as they take on Missouri Western at 7 p.m. from the TRYSA Complex in Emporia.
