HORNETS FALL 3-1 AT HOME TO MSSU
September 28, 2007 -- The ESU soccer team fell by a score 2-1 to Southwest Baptist Friday night in Emporia. The Hornets were out shot 30-7, but connected on one of their two shots on goal.
Dominie Emmanuel got the Bearcats on the board first with her sixth goal of the season in the second minute of the match. Amanda Miano then took a pass from Jennifer Gurnsey and found back of the net from six feet inside the box. For Miano it was her second goal of the season while Gurnsey picked up her first assist of the year. SBU got what would prove to be the game winning goal in the 31st minute of the game off a header by Caitlin Tull that found the back of the net.
Megan Martin returned to do the goalkeeping for the Hornets got 11 saves for the Hornets while only allowing two goals.
The Hornets will now face Washburn on the road in a renewal of the Turnpike Tussle on Oct. 4 in Topeka at 7 p.m.
