HORNETS FALL 3-1 AT HOME TO MSSU
September 27, 2007 -- The Hornet soccer team fell to Missouri Southern 3-1 in MIAA action on Thursday. The Hornets were out shot by the Lions 22-10, and gave up 12 shots on goal while taking three themselves.
MSSU struck first in the ninth minute of the first period as Nikki Llewellyn got her eigth goal of the season to give MSSU a 1-0 lead. Caitlin Riemer then answered for the Hornets with a 40 yard loft shot that landed just over the goalkeepers head for her third goal of the season. MSSU then would not score again until the 29th minute when Lindsey Altman got her third second goal of the season. MSSU would then net the last goal as Erin Whalen added her first of the season in the 75th minute.
Alicia Smith got of three shots for the Hornets and one shot on goal. Amanda Miano, Lauren Cathey and Caitlin Reimer had two shots apiece to pace the rest of the squad. Sarah Tetuan made her first career start in goal and had seven saves while only allowing three goals.
ESU will next take on Southwest Baptist tomorrow night at the TRYSA Complex in Emporia. Kick off for the match is set for 7 p.m.
