HORNETS LOSE TO BEGIN FINAL ROAD TRIP
October 26, 2007--Emporia State surrendered a goal less than a minute into the match on their way to a 5-0 loss at Southwest Baptist on Friday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.
Krysten Bartshe scored just 34 seconds into the match off an Atefeh Heivary assist to give SBU a 1-0 lead. Dominie Emmanuel gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead on an unassisted goal in the 17th minute. Megan Martin would record saves on five shots in the first half to keep the Hornets within 2-0 at the intermission.
Krysten Bartshe scored in the 60th minute to put SBU up 3-0. Heivary put the finishing touches on the match with a pair of goals only 34 seconds apart in hte 66th and 67th minute for the final five goal margin.
Martin ended the match with eight saves as SBU outshot ESU 24-2 on the day. The junior from Wichita now has 144 saves on the season and 260 saves in her 34 game career. She holds the ESU single season record and is ranked fifth in the MIAA for a single season and eighth in the league in career saves.
The Hornets will look for their first win of the season in their last game against Missouri Southern on Saturday in Joplin, Mo. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
