HORNETS SHUTOUT AT MISSOURI WESTERN
September 14, 2007-- The Emporia State soccer team played Missouri Western to a scoreless tie through the first 62 minutes before the Griffons scored three goals in an 11 minute period to take a 3-0 win in St. Joseph, Mo. on Friday night.

The Hornets outshot the Griffons eight to six in the first half, with a two to one advantage in shots on goal in the opening frame. Alicia Smith had two of her game high five shots in the opening frame.

The two teams were scoreless until MWSU's Megan Sinclair found the goal on a cross from Desi Swanson in the 63rd minute. The Griffons scored again less than five minutes later when Jessica Martin put a shot over ESU keeper Megan Martin in the 67th minute. Heather Scheimeier ended the scoring in the 74th minute on a shot into the left side of the net.

Four of Smith's five shots were on goal for the Hornets and Sarah Tetuan added two shots on goal for ESU. Martin had six saves between the pipes for the Hornets.

ESU is back in action on Saturday when they travel to #15 Central Missouri. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg, Mo.
